The Tulsa City-County Library remains a community treasure, due in large part to the help of hundreds of volunteers donating thousands of hours each year. These people bring a perspective that is as valuable and informative as any book within the library.

These heroes were honored during the recent Hearts and Flowers Volunteer Recognition, which also featured presentation of the Marcus R. Tower Service Award by the Tulsa Library Trust and the Bank of Oklahoma.

Stan Teter was recognized for his contribution to quality of library service. The award is an engraved crystal tower and a gift of $1,500 made in honor of the recipient to a TCCL program of his or her choice.

This year's award went to Teter for his continued service to the Friends of the Tulsa City-County Libraries. He designated the $1,500 award to be split between the Ruth G. Hardman Adult Literacy Service, Outreach Services, and to purchase additional large-print books.

For nearly 20 years, Teter has served on almost every Friends committee, usually more than once. His passion for world events led him to be a fixture during the annual Great Decisions discussion series.

These volunteers were recognized for their hours and years of service: Patty Hager, Genealogy Center, 4,500 hours; Loretta Blevins, Pratt Library, 3,500 hours; Howard Cotner, Central Book Sale; and Verlma West, Herman and Kate Kaiser Library, 2,500 hours.

Also Pat Alexander, Genealogy Center; Chris Brooks, Nathan Hale Library; and Ray McGlynn, Central

Circulation/ Readers' Library, 1,500 hours; Claudia Alley, Schusterman-Benson Library; Mickey Cox, Literacy; Veronica Ewert, Brookside Library; Ruth James, Collinsville Library; Sharon Maust, Hardesty Regional Library; Nancy Muirhead, Skiatook Library and Mary Beth Soard, Brookside Library, 1,000 hours.

Janie Funk, Friends; Pat Jordan, Martin Regional Library; Paulette Mark, Hardesty Regional Library; Betty Trammel, Maxwell Park Library; and Trudy Vaughn, Schusterman-Benson Library, 750 hours.

Volunteers were also recognized for 500 and 250 hours.
